Hermann Bentele

Biography

Publicity, lettering, books, jackets, stamps. Born 8 July 1923 in Ravensburg. 1940-42, 1946-9: studied at the Stuttgart Akademie where he became a Meisterschuler under F.H. Ernst Schneidler. 1949-51: taught history of typography/lettering at the Technische Hochschule, Stuttgart. From 1952: designed for publishers including Alma Mater Verlag in Tübingen and Brockhaus Verlag. From 1955: taught commercial art at the Muthesius Werkkunstschule (now Fachhochschule), Kiel; from 1972: professor of Graphic Design. 1956: designed a postage stamp for the Olympic Games. 1963: designed postage stamp for the Red Cross centenary. Retired 1988.
