Susanne Heynemann

Biography

Born 19 June 1913 in Berlin. c1930: worked for the Berlin printer Büxenstein. 1935: emigrated to Holland. Designed book jackets/lettering for publishers, particularly Querido and Amsterdamsche Boek. From 1939: lived in Amsterdam; survived the war. 1948: awarded Werkman-Duwaer Prize, City of Amsterdam. 1951: awarded State prize. 1952-5: lived in Bandung, Indonesia. 1955: lived in USA. 1956: returned to Groningen, Holland. 1956-83: worked with Wolters-Noordhoff, Groningen.
